A few parting shots

I took a few pics at the market this morning, all taken roughly between 7.00 and 8.00am.

Some of the hundreds of stall holders sleep overnight in the market’s car park and in surrounding streets. The picture below is of the ‘Transport Department’, and there’s a truck on the right from which a stall holder had just emerged yawning. It must have been hell in there. It was already 29° at 7.00am.

This next picture is of a furniture stall in the car park. Behind the brown wooden section on the right someone was sleeping in a tiny space and earlier the chap sat in the chair popped out from the white bit just above his head in the picture.

The elderly woman below has been sat there every time I’ve come to the market, one of only a small handful of people I’ve seen begging. Presumably widowed being all dressed in black, her right arm’s always shaking uncontrollably. I think it may be Parkinson’s or something similar.

I chatted with the man stood by the shop below, which is just near the market. His name’s Yiannis and he’s been selling vegetables, frozen food and honey from there for 65 years. Placing a flat hand beside his knees and with various gestures he explained that as a child he used to play in the street on which we stood while his parents ran the store.

This ramshackle, empty and phone free hut beside the market (also at the top of this page) says it’s a taxi rank but I think you’d have a long wait.

The rest of the images are a random collection of sights that took my fancy. Packing my bags now.

Over and out …..
